I have a Maxtor 250 GB External Hard Drive laying around. I would like to remove the hard drive from the casing and put it into my desktop. I've already removed the drive and when I look at the jumper settings I see that there is a pin missing that doesn't allow me to set the drive as slave. There is also a plastic piece on one of the pins that allows me to set the drive as master. I've tried removing the plastic piece but it won't budge. When I try to boot my computer with the hard drive plugged in, my computer won't boot. Any ideas?
Maybe it's defaulting to cable select? Have you tried it without any other drives on the same cable?
