I by no means would like to start another amd v intel war but I have been looking for a new mobo/processor and I was surprised to see how much the price of the 533 bus p4 processor prices have fallen. Would a p4 2.4ghz 533bus combined with a 845pe mobo outperform an athlon xp and nforce2 mobo. I dont wanna spend over 200 for the processor and 150 is my limit for a mobo. Anyone have any suggestions. Also has anyone seen any benchmarks that compare a p4 with 845pe mobo v an xp with a nforce2 mobo.

Thanx in advance

I assume you're talking the same speeds... an XP2400+ against a P4 2.4 GHz. right? The XP2400+ on the nForce would be faster. But remember, both chips overclock well and that can change things depending on your success there.

The AXP 2400+ will be faster.

No, but you can read THG's latest VGA chart instead. Here an AXP 2700+ with nForce2 beats a P4 3.06 GHz with i845PE in every gaming benchmarks.

They are about even in performance now that NF2 has reached the market.

For best PE board I suggest the following:

The Abit IT7Max2 Rev2 is the best performing 845PE board and the Asus P4PE used in the THG test spitfire mentioned above is the worst and has a known problem with 3D gaming performance.

You will find the IT7 has every possible option you would want on a montherboard.

Will you be playing games, internet, or?

I cannot recomend a NF2 board yet, I know of a couple that the owners themselves recomend not buying.

Its kinda hard to follow if you are not into the current performance record holders, but they are congratulation Oppainter for breaking 21K in 3Dmark2001se.

If you are not a big gameer I would strongly recommend just getting the 2100. There is only a very small performance difference between the 2100 and 2400 on office and web applications that you wouldnt notice anyway. For just web and office then the extra money for the 2400 is not worth it and it is better to just get a bigger hard drive or a bigger monitor instead.

Sheer awesome.....

BTW as for a 2200+ or faster...thats not necessary....there T-Bred A's from 1700+ - 2100+ now not just the 2200+..

I picked up a AXDA 1800+ T-Bred last week man does the thing OC pretty well....i think there just re-marked 2200+ i can get 1.72Ghz at 1.50 VCore...raise it a little to 1.6 and i get 2200+ easy....i run it at 2000+ for now with a Volcano 7 at 1.50VCore (Default) and its always around 29 - 30 celcious idle..and doesnt surpass 34 under full load running toast or anything....

Either solution, AMD or Intel, will meet your needs nicely. If you want Intel get Intel, otherwise go with the lowest price and\or the motherboard that offers the features you want.
