Are there any Android phones I can use like a real PC?
Such as plug the mini-HDMI cable in a real monitor.
Plug the mini-USB cable to a real keyboard and mouse via a hub?
Then do real work. Like typing on some some document on a mobile word processor with spelling check.
Use edit on mobile spreadsheet & mobile power point.
Of course use a real Chrome (desktop) type browser for surfing with my external keyboard and mouse.
Lastly view home (MP4/Divx) movies on the monitor and play Angry Birds (for example) using a mouse.
Possible, then I can leave my notebook behind more often? What phone can do this? What to look for? Android 4.0+? If not when when roughly?
No news if and when it will hit the US and European markets. Since this system is built around a phone a carrier must be willing to offer this to customers. If no carriers are willing to carry this phone, then all you can do is try to import one and then get the phone unlocked so that it can be used with your preferred carrier.
The high price is likely due to import taxes, the exclusivity of the chance of owning this phone in the US and it is unlocked. If a carrier like AT&T offered this phone it would likely be less month because you will likely be forced in to a 2 year contract.
All you need to do is find and buy the keyboard dock. Therefore, total cost will probably be about $1,000... excluding a mobile voice/text/data plan.
In comparison, the Asus Transformer Prime with the keyboard dock probably costs around $600 - $650. A new high end Android phone will run you about $300 (or more depending on the model) with a 2 year contract. With all that taken into consideration the total Asus PadFone package is really not that expensive. However, the phone only comes with 16GB of storage while a Transformer Prime will come with 32GB of storage. But the PadFone is an all in one package that can operate up to 17 hours when used as a netbook and the pad docking station can also be used to charge the cellphone if it is running low on juice.
Taken all the above into consideration, purchasing an unlocked Asus PadFone is worth the approximate $1,000 for the complete package.
