Hello Everyone,
I would greatly appricate some sound advice on which CPU to match up with my ASUS A7N8X Deluxe. Would the XP 2600 (333) or the XP 2600(266) be better. The 266 version is actually 5 to 10 more than the 333 version??? I am also leaning towards the 2700/333 only for an additional $40 bucks.??? I do plan on overclocking with my swiftech 462+ and big fan/ fans. I was planning on the XP 2400, but new egg's prices are more competative on the 2600 and 2700..
I realize this is asking alot, but please help me decide as I need to order immediately.
Thanks - Morgan

i would go with the XP 2600 (333). You need the Athlon that officially supports 333FSB otherwise you will be hampering the performance of your system. Make sure you also get DDR400 (PC3200) memory to fully complement the dual channel memory controller on the chipset.

P.S The performance diffrence between the 2600 and 2700 is negligible and is not worth the money.

I think the 266 version may be better for overclocking though?????
It is more expensive than the 333 version, everywhere I have checked????
How is this???
By the way do I really need a shim??
I have built 3 previous athlon system and have yet to use a shim. Am I living dangerously???

Why don't you just get the 2400+ if you're overclocking? Afterall, all the Athlons above the 2200+ are based on the Thouroughbred B core, so they're all going to overclock similarly. I don't think the 333Mhz version overclocks any better or worse, it's just the same core with a different multiplier and bus speed setting. I never used a shim, it's costly, and conducts electricity (some models), and sometimes interferes with the top parts on the processor. I wouldn't use a shim, it doesn't really add much safety anyway

Instead of Rdram, why not just merge 4 Sdram channels...

Hey Guys,
I was really counting on some more input, particularily from the forum veterans.?>.
Due to availability and my noticing the price of the XP 2600 266 being slightly higher than the 333 version. I have gone ahead and ordered an XP2600/266. Does anyone know why price - watch has this version always being 5 to 10 dollars more than the 333 version??? I realize there probalby not much real difference in these two, espically if I can get INTO the real multiplier bios. Once New Egg gets this to me I will post the stepping and any other cpu info. Please advise--Thank You.
