Hi Guys

I require more info on getting multiple webcams going on a single machine in order to use it as a DIY security system. Any ideas on software that can be used for this, maybe recording too, and also maybe logging into them remotely to check on things should the alarm be activited while I'm out.

Any assistance greatly appreciated.

Hey, I had a system set up with a really simple piece of software called Dorgem. While it has been discontinued (as a project), it still does the job well.
Site: http://dorgem.sourceforge.net/
The guide I used to get set up: http://www.simplehelp.net/2006/09/27/how-to-use-your-pc-and-webcam-as-a-motion-detecting-and-recording-security-camera/

I didn't use multiple web cameras, but that guide has instructions on how to - it's a simple command line when starting.

Hey,

I just noticed this thread since it had a new post.

To answer the original question, we built a service called www.camcloud.com that supports this requirement. It allows you to setup webcams or Axis IP cameras, and multiple webcams can be attached to a single computer. It supports recording based on motion events and you can view the live streams as well.

If you have any questions, PM me, or post them to the Camcloud forum.
