Help with tritton ax pro on pc

Ive had a tritton ax pro headset for awhile now and its been great. I decided to finally try it out with my computer but i dont know if i hooked it up right. Is all i have to do is plug it in with the optical cable and set if to default or is there more? I played some crysis warhead and it sounds good but doesnt seem to sound as good as my console games like cod4 and killzone 2. Does the game just not sound as good as those 2 or is it something in the settings? I have a soundblaster x-fi xtreme audio soundcard by the way.
