HP IIIP Question

I have an HP IIIP that is now 17 years old. It may be time to replace the toner again as the left side is light and has long streaks. No cleaning seems to work and even the printer generated cleaning paper is very uneven.

So, is it worth trying another toner? I have ALWAYS used HP toners, but the price now is way too much to put into a 17 year old printer. I wonder if I can trust the 3rd party toners? An HP toner would pay for a whole new printer! I do like my Parallel print server that I am using with the HP IIIP and hope I can fix the printer.
