Problems with Toshiba Laptop

I have a two year old Toshiba laptop which was slow and I re-formatted it with Windows Xp Pro. Everything went smoothly, but when windows starts, there is an erratic behaviour with the wired mouse. When I point to an icon, object or close(X), the action gets activated immediately even without my clicking of the mouse and if I keep it pointed too long at one position, multiple action gets activated. Even the touch pad has the same problem. Changing with another working wired mouse and rebooting does not solve the problem. It's driving me nuts. Could it be a hardware problem? Can anybody help?

That is strange. I would advise you to maybe update the mouse driver in device manager and see if that works. If not, check out toshiba's website and see if they have any driver updates for your model. My guess is that it is some sort of driver conflict with the OS.
