I have recently purchased a MSI KT3 Ultra 2 Motherboard, AMD 2000xp CPU, with 256meg of 333DDR RAM.

With the BIOS cpu clock speed set to 133 the machine correctly shows the CPU to be an AMD 2000xp, but the computer is VERY unstable and crashes randomly.
If I set the BIOS CPU clock speed to its default 1000 it shows the CPU as being a 1250, but the computer is quite stable.

What should the speed be set at (the motherboard has a huge range of clock speeds in increments of 1) and do I have to alter the CPU/Ratio Vcore at all?

I have plenty of power (350 watts) and it is well cooled - between 45 and 55 degrees)

Anybody else had this problem?

133 is the correct FSB speed for your processor. Something else is wrong. Did you select the "high performance" defaults when you set up your BIOS? If so, select "setup defaults" and then see how they work. The high performance settings push your memory to very tight settings and that may be the problem.

Other than that, what temperature does your CPU show in the BIOS? It should be somewhere in the low 40's at boot-up.

What type of ram do you have. Low quality ram and/or far to aggressive timings can cauze stability problems.

I set theBIOS to defaults, (The CPU speed is 100 by default, i increased that to the 133).

Memory is 256 DDR, I don't know the make, but I've left the BIOS at default settings for it.

oh and it appeaars stable (up to now) at a clock speed of 130 as opposed to 133. If it works I won't worry about the missing 3 cycles
