Hi

My son has sent me a Dell Inspiron 8000 bought in Australia about 4
years ago. There is nothing with it.

I only get a small screen and I can't change it from control panel.
It's VGA std. I'd like the drivers for NIC, Video, and anything else.
Incidently, It hasn't got a NIC and I intend to buy one. Would the
new one come with a driver for the Dell?

I know from trawling through the postings on this group that the
drivers were available on the web site but I couldn't find them.

Can anyone confirm the web site URL and give a bit of navigation?.

Google got me some Inspirons but not the 8000.

Many thanks

Colin

all you had to do was go to the DELL web site?

This only took me to:"Error. Unable to retrieve the requested
information."

However, I think that I have found a video driver. Whatever happened
to the 8000 I can't find much evidence of it.

The link was broken across 2 lines, so in your browser you have to
manually copy/paste in the 2nd line onto the end of the first line ...
It does list the i8000 drivers, I'll go ahead and copy it below again:

Many thanks. This page looks exactly like the one I found myself at
by navigating around the site. So the video option at the bottom of
the list should be the right one.

I wonder where I could find the specification for the 8000. I've no
idea what I'm dealing with but I intend to install Sandra to analyse
the configuration. I know that the battery is hopeless and that I
shall probably end up taking the thing apart.

I am well used to repairing desktops.

Thanks

Colin

Batteries are readily available as are many accessories. The Inspiron
8000/8100/8200 shared a very similar chassis and almost all accesories will
interchange. One issue to watch for is the the 8200 requires a larger power
supply as the faster processor needs more power. The Latitude C800/810/840
are essentially the same computer built for the corporate market.

Some info here http://www.bay-wolf.com/mainfaq.htm
http://www.eaglecomputing.com/portables.htm
http://www.geocities.com/thebithead/I8200FAQ.htm

They were very nice machines though a bit flimsy build quality (though I
haven't wrecked mine yet).

This is terrific service.

I now have my screen up and running so I can see what I'm doing. I
tried hardware analysis using Sandra but my version doesn't run under
W98SE. I hope that you all know about Sandra. If not look for
Sisoftware on the web.

I think that I've got a lot to look forward to. It seems that I have
everything I am likely to need.

Again, many thanks

Colin
