I currently own (in dual screen):

20" 1680x1050 - Samsung SyncMaster 206BW
17" 1280x1024 - Some ViewSonic that came with my old pc

Thinking of upgrading the 17" to a 24" 1920x1200. Is this worth it? If so what is the best 24" out there at the moment?
I don't do any particularly important print design if that makes a difference. Also preferably no speakers inbuilt.

Well, you have already good set of monitors.
I would like to suggest you to try out AOC's flat panels. They are good.

If you have the budget for it, the brand new Dell Ultrasharp U2410 looks amazing.

The best is arguably the NEC 2490WUXi, however it is being phased out since the particular H-IPS LCD panel is no longer being produced by LG/Philips. However, at $1,200+ it is rather expensive.

You need to give a budget.
