pdf files opening coded

I am working late and I need to open a pdf reference. when I select the pdf
file to open it starts Word and the document is in coded text. The first time
I tried to convert a document from pdf to Word I downloaded a Microsoft
sponsored pdf2Word help software, Trial version. I have uninstalled that. It
didn't work. A couple days ago, I tried it again I took a pdf from email
and sent it to Word to edit. It edited and resent well. Now when I open a
doc. it goes to Word instead of pdf. Is there a setting that didn't reset?
Does anyone know what I'm missing?

You cannot read a pdf file in Word.
You cannot edit a pdf file in Word.
To read a pdf file you need some thing like Adobe Acrobat Reader.
To create a pdf file you use some thing like Adobe Acrobat or
OpenOffice or similar.
Editing a pdf file is akin to creating a pumpkin from pumpkin soup.
Adobe Acrobat Reader is free and avauilable from http://www.adobe.com .
Adobe Acrobat is NOT free and can be purchased from software suppliers.
Open Office is free and can be obtained from http://www.openoffice.org/

There are a number of other applications that can open and/or create
pdf files.

I found the solution under control panel, to folder options, look up pdf,
see what program opens pdf, it has to be Adobe, mine was set to Word.
