i'm wondering the same thing. Just got a toshiba, and currently have a benq and sharp. Calibration sounds like a fun project. But what software to get started with.?

test patterns are test patterns.. they arent gonna change.

you have to make a decision:
do you want to rely on your eyeballs to get the colors right?
or
do you want to rely on a piece of hardware to get the colors right?

**edit**
the hardware isnt going to adjust the sharpness for you, so you are gonna have to rely on your eyeballs anyways.
and if you want to adjust the colors, you need color filters.
