I was reading the review of the new mobility radeon 9600, it sounds great but I am wondering how it is going to compare to the NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5600 in the toshiba 5205-S705 I bought from Circuit City a couple of weeks ago. It seems like an awesome notebook, but I have not seen much written about it.

I installed the Dawn demo and Escape from Wolfenstien on it and it seems to run flawlessly at best quality. The 1600x1200 15" LCD seems great too. All that and it has a TV Tuner and windows media center (with the remote and stuff) so I can use it as a PVR when I am not doing something else. Now I just need to pull a cable line to my desk.

The 5600go will be on par with the mobility radeon 9600, but laptop graphics card are still worst than ones used on desktops.

So I downloaded the "free" version of the 3dmark2003 just to see what an amatuer benchmarker could do. I got the notebook to score a 2125. It might be able to do better since the only prep I did was to disable system restore (the readme said to do that). Media Center does have an agent that will record TV shows for you while you are in the OS, so that might create some slowness. Overall, I have to say that I am quite happy with it.

how do you like your notebook? I found a 5205-s703 for $480 brand new and I'm really really considering buying it. Is it too heavy, bulky or anything? What about the screen any afterglow?

Treat your body like a $600 car. God didn't intend it to last so use it. Run it into the ground!

It is pretty heavy. The s703 looks good, but it does not have the same graphics chip. The screen is likley the same though. For the price you are talking about it seems like a steal. I have not noticed afterglow from the screen, but then again I have not really looked.

yeah I realize the differance between graphics chips and cpu clock :D I'll probably get it just cuz the price is so damned perfect, the other model with the keyboard that detatches that can be used wirelessly is available for the same price too but 10lbs is WAY too much for me! 7lbs is tough to justify...but 500 dollars justifies it just fine.
