PCAnywhere causes video problem

I just received a new Dell Dimension 3000 and have been loading programs
without a problem until PCAnywhere 10.5. It installs ok, but when the system
restarts, the video is reduced to 640 and in settings, no other option is
given. I have to do a System Restore. Any ideas on how to successfully
install PCAnywhere on my system?

PCAnywhere is not a Microsoft product.
Please contact Symantec support:

Have you tried to re-install the video card driver?

Is it always "the other guy"? The software installed and worked fine on my
older computer that was also XP Home. Symantec has been no help since this
seems to be either a computer specific or an operating system problem.
Something in the install process during restart is causing the video problem.

It isn't always "the other guy" unless you're talking to tech support
from one of the companies involved. ;-) One of the things that makes
troubleshooting PC's so difficult - as opposed to Apples, for ex. - is
that you can have such an enormous variety of hardware and software
running the same operating system.

I haven't had any problems installing PCA on anything, but obviously
there is something about the new Dell that is causing PCA to choke. Can
you install other programs successfully? Have you optimized the machine
yet? Compare the software that is running on the Dimension 3000 to the
software running on a computer with a working PCA. What is and isn't
running? Look at the hardware differences too, particularly in regard
to the video card.

I'm afraid that only you (or a computer professional on-site) can do
this troubleshooting.

Good luck,

Thanks for the reply. All other programs installed fine including Symantec's
WinFax. Should I try Dell again?

No. You should determine what is running that is different on the Dell
first. Once you know that, you'll be able to take the next
troubleshooting step.

Do you mean what programs are running that are different? Or are you also
talking about drivers. I think a video driver is the issue given that after
restart, the only video available is 640x480.

Yes, of course. Whatever is different about the computer where the
program works from the computer where the program doesn't work. This is
pretty straightforward; it's just a lot of tedious work. Unfortunately,
there isn't any other way to figure it out, and - unless you get luck
and come across the exact same issue from Googling around - the only
person who can figure it out is you or a professional on-site.
