Now say your old athlon 750 gateway ripped you for is givin out of gas(BF1942,MORROWIND)..After a little research i found out that a barebones 2400 was going to cost me 100 more than the 2100.(Pricewatch)A7N8X,Twin 256pc2700,case,fan,400wt. power supply. After overclocking(FSB) on air(heatsink/fan) which is the most bang for the buck for gaming?
BONUS QUESTIONS
1.Do i need pc3200 memory 1(512mb)
2.does the asus/nforce2 board have dipswitches to unlock the multiplier for the cpu?
3.*What will the 3dmark2001se scores be with these systems and my curent card*
MY CURRENT SYSTEM
Gateway Athlon 750
384mb pc100
gainward geforce4 4200 64mb o/c 297/601(unstable but will bench-275/551 stable oc)
HIGHEST SCORING 748Mhz ATHLON PROCESSOR IN THE WORLD

go for the 2400.i have just ordered mine today.it oc's really well and a7n8x unlocks the multiplier so you can do what you want with it.you can easily get it up to 166fsb and put the multiplier down slightly.you don't need pc3200 coz you can run the 2400 in sync with pc2700 at 166.the only reason to get pc3200 really is if you intend to upgrade eventually to one of the 400fsb barton which will follow the initial 333fsb ones and both types will be compatible with nforce 2 boards.

no matter how hard you try, you can't polish a turd. :]

Depends, you can do what the above guy told you to do, buy the 2400 it and oc it. Or you can save the $100 and wait about 1/2 a year for prices to drop and upgrade to a new cpu. The stock speed difference isn't really that great, but the xp2400 overclocks way better. So it really depends if you need the speed right now.
