Ok, I got my compunurse, and set it up- one right next to the cpu die, one on the gpu. Issue is the cpu temp is like 57 degrees when starting up (reaches this in a matter of seconds) and then plateaus. My mobo temp reader on the other hand says around 30 something. odd. This is also the temp when idle, and the stock hsf is on properly.

So where is the temp probe of compunurse located?
If its right next to the core i would assume its pretty accurate, and the mobo temp reader is out by a fair bit.

My cpu can easily get up to a 'indicated' 86C, yet the HSF copper block is only a warm 40C.
Onboard measured temps are at best a vague guess.

it's touching the core, so yeah, it gives very accurate reading. It's now 60ºC when idle, and my quadro dcc (currently non overclocked) is 50º not under load! Damn! I'm gonna run some stuff to check out how hot is does get.

yeah. modern CPU cores do get hot... but they are designed to. Same with GPU's.
I had an overclocked TNT2 once, with just a passive HS, no fan. It was hot enough to burn the skin off my finger within seconds... yet it still ran ok.
An my geforce2pro with big-ass socket 370 cooler ontop can easily run at 60 to 70c without a fan.

I do beleive I will be annoying my dad about that $600 case that keeps temps at -40ºC soon. It'll prolong the life of me components  .

my temps are "so high" because they ARN'T.
Basically both the internal sensor and the motherboards method of measuring it are completely uncalibrated.
so i hihgly doubt 57C=57C, nor does it increase in a 1 to 1 fashion.

sitting on a nice 75C right now. as allways, stable as a rock with the copper block at around 40C tops. (real 40C mind)
So its really not that hot.
