Hp dc5800 micro tower wont boot from cd

I have a hp dc5800 micro tower that will not boot a Linux or Window XP install cd. I tried hitting f9 and choosing boot from cd. I also disabled the hard drive boot up in the bios and place the cd drive as the only device to use as a boot device.

Thanks

  1. Have you attempted to read the disk from the OS? Maybe the CD drive is faulty?
  2. Here is the problem with a firmware solution but I need to have Window Vista.

I have Windows XP installed. How can I solve this?

This is a description of the problem from H.P. site.

"Description: TSST TS-H353B 16X DVD-ROM SATA drive firmware update resolves issue with the system being unable to boot from CD media."

    This makes no sense.
