I just built a system primarily used for 3D modeling / CAD design. The components are: D845GERG2 Intel m/b, 3.06 Intel processor, Thermaltake DRAGON heatsink/fan, 2 gig RAM, 36gig SCSI drive. My question concerns how quickly the CPU heats up. I set up an animation of a 3D model. After only 5 1/2 minutes into the animation the CPU sensor alert activated saying the processor had exceeded the 154 degree Fahrenheit threshold. I immediately stopped the animation and the CPU temperature immediately started to fall. My first reaction was this is something that I needed to be CONCERNED about. Am I over reacting? Is this normal behavior for the P4 3gig CPU? Is there a danger of the CPU going up in SMOKE. I'm expecting to use this computer 8 to 10 hours most days. Any help is most appreciated.

Thanks
Howard

the temp changing rapidly is normal but the high temp is not. your temp reading could be wrong. if it is correct you did somthing wrong when attatching the heat sink.

my computer is so fast, it completes an endless loop in less than 4 seconds!

Sounds like your HSF is not rated for the CPU or it has very poor contact.

Put the stock HSF back on and try it again.
