Fiberglass: can it cause static damage?

I recently got a ps3 that was covered with Glass wool/fiber glass. Anyway, there are some that I cannot remove from the little plastic cover that is on the cd drive. Can the fiber glass affect how the laser reads the disk and can the fiberglass cause static damage to the ps3?

If you know how, how can I remove every bit of fiberglass from my system?
