How do i get my dongle to be recognised

i had a dongle connected a while ago but now i dont seem to have the usb port active what can i do

First I would check if the other USB ports on your computer work, it could just be that one is stuffed.
If you have the CD that came with your motherboard/laptop (you didn't specify) try re-installing the USB drivers that are located on the CD.
