I have a Gateway VX-700 17" CRT monitor on my old GW Win 95a desktop. The
monitor is several years old. Lately, it's beginning to blink (going black)
for a half-second...blinking two or three times. Then it's fine for awhile.
It first did this when booting up. Today, it started blinking after being on
for a couple of hours.

Any idea which component may be going out? And, is this the sort of thing
that a local PC shop could repair?

Thanks!
Scott

Scott,

It sounds temporary loss of signal. Double-check all the connections,
if you haven't already.

If that doesn't help, your best bet would be a replacement. Although
the VX-700 is a good quality monitor, it is at the end of its uselife.
No one bothers to fix old monitors. My local thrift store often has
similar models that have been freed-up as people have gone to
flat-screens. If you decide to purchase a new one, I'd keep in mind an
inevitable desktop upgrade.

Mortima,

Yes, I checked the cable connections, and all seems tight. It hasn't been blinking
for a couple of days now. I talked with a computer repair person, and he said it
would problably cost $100 to repair...not worth it, when I can replace the monitor
for around $150.00.
