This is bullshyt. I know its been around for a while, but the USF Fee Recovery tax just pushes it. I/WE have to pay extra so people living in the ghetto can go online? F#$@ them! Tell them to sell their crack or guns and save that for online stuff. And those low income folks...I dont bust my ass at work so I can pay for YOUR online time. I need that for my own bills, cause those people dont have taxes to help me! Next thing that "penny per page" might go thru. Or maybe tax gas more so people that can not afford gas, can now??! Solution, you dont need a car, but a higher paying job.
hmm...its late, im tired, continue tomorrow.

I agree that our guvernment has spiraled out of control so much that they lost site of what the income tax and government was for.
It is a sad state of affairs.

there are two systems, socialism, and capitalism.

you need a balance of the two to have a successfull democracy.

if you give no support to the poor. then your poor populations will only become poorer, and will only create more problems for you in thefuture. but if you provide to much support to the poor without offering the same things to the less poor, then you just encourage people to become poor.

i think they should probably offer free public healthcare before internet connections. however education one thing which can help people get out of bad situations. and education is one thing that is essential in making people feel like they have a worthwhile life.

i think that its fair enough to pay for 56K modems for poor people

Ah, but you know how the government is about overspending. They'll probably give 3 megabit connections for poor families with young children, meanwhile even poorer families with unemployed adult children (18, 19) will have to buy their own. Meaning people on welfare will once again have a higher standard of living that poor people who don't qualify for welfare.

The obvious answer here: If you're poor and can't find a decent job, you'd better either make some babies or get used to living with nothing.

yes the government is often stupid.

a system of free 56K modems for people with an income of under so-and-so or in so-and-so situation would be respectable IMO.

however yeah with current governments they will probably end up giving stuff only to people earning over 5 million dolalrs a year.

:P

the complaints you should be making to your government should not be against it all, but rather it should be about targeting the help they do give better.

The lesson here is: If I wanted to be a baby making machine with an 18k/yr job, I'd get around 6k/yr in welfare benefits for my kids and better internet than I have now. But if I'm just an unemployed guy trying not to cause society such grief and making less than 10k/yr, I get nothing. In fact, I got kicked out of the work assistance program, how short sighted is that?

Crashman this is the reason why i support socialism.... but smart socialism.

taking enough care, and the right type of care for your poorer children and unemployed can get them out of the situation they are in.

the right type of care includes free or subsidised education programs.
free or subsidised basic health care.
resources like public libraries.
perhaps internet connections (56K modems are sufficient)
perhaps free computers (700Mhz)

we do amny of these things here. and really its not giving these poor people anything more than the rest of people. it is however giving them an oppertunity to better themselves if needed.

subsidising a lazy way of life is pointless, encouraging people to get out of it is great.

BTW we have a shortage of workers here. they are in desperate need of employees. however a certain percentage of people remain unemployeed. you will ALWAYS have that group of people in society. the main thing is keeping that number to a managable level. just because these few people are too lazy to do anything. or to drugged up to care. doesn't mean that we should punish the rest of the poor people.

some people are poor not through choice but through situation. others are poor just becaus they are lazy. don't let one ruin the others hard effort and trying.

This type of taxes should be voluntary. Like: do you want to be an organ donor when you kill yourself in a car. Do you want to give $5 to your local pigs..errr police..that sort of stuff.
That way the care givers can give away their money while the rest of us keep our well earned cash.

sounds retarded.

there should be only "some" optional taxes. however you get no choice on how much you pay, but rather who gets it.
taxes are the only thing that keeps things running (if you realised) unless you want anarchy (which is ironicly the purest form of capitalism).

Do you have any idea what kinds of computers these people are already throwing away? Let me clue you in: Computer has a virus: Throw it away and beg some charitable agency for another.

For the sake of job research and education I have no problem giving people a 56k connection. It only cost providers around $5 a month, that's how they can sell the service for $10 a month. The problem is administration: $5 per household could EASILY become $20 per houshold with administration cost (administration of the program itself).

Of course none of this would be necessary if we had a library within 20 minutes walking distance of every home in the U.S. And you can see how THAT's not practical!

You see guys on the right saying "Libraries have internet, let people use those", then when you ask "How will people get there" they say "Drive there"! And then when you ask "How can a poor family drive their when they can't afford auto insurance" and they'll take the Bush stance "These people deserve nothing because they're too lazy to get a job"! So how am I going to find a good job if I can't even use the best method to find the most job listings? There are simply too many problems to be worked out at this time, so the Bushites will get their way until somebody can work out a nearly perfect system.

no its not retarded. you misunderstand. taxes should be paid, we all know what they r for.
taxes like the one i mention should be optional. just like support your local police, skin cancer foundation, blah blah.
im not gonna pay so a punk ass kid living in the ghetto can waste my money to go online. get a job. the only person taking my money is uncle sam....cause he has too..and some of that goes to the ghetto anyways!!!!!

crashman. you honestly DON'T have a library within 20 mins walk of everyone (in suburbs or the city) ??

that is rather suprising.

i guess i have always taken for granted that there is a library in every town centre. (not that anyone uses them LOL)

oh and P.s. yeah administration for these things is very very rediculous. the best chances of it working would be a charity organising it who can call for donations of time and money for admin. governments are notorious for wasting money on admin. because everything needs to be peachy with the public. (thats where dictatorships have a slight advantage. admin costs are as much as it takes to say "do it or i lock your arse up" )

There is 1 public library in my city. It takes over an hour to walk there from the most densly populated areas. The next public library is 30 miles away.
