some stuff is so mixed up on the internet and people dont know which method to oc diff cpu's. ok with the 2200, i see that the L1 cache is closed. i read that to unlock the multiplier below 14, i close the last bridge on the L3. is this right? and if so. umm the last bridge would be the one on the right, right?ehe

thanks

thanks. i used to go to that site a lot. but it seems like with the newer cpu's that site is getting more and more outdated

Really? I thought they had a pretty comprehensive AMD XP overclock guide... That is rather unfortunate that they are lagging....

yes.if the l1 bridges are all closed then all you need to do is close the last l3 bridge to unlock the multiplier.i saw a guide for it at overclockers australia but i can't find it at the moment to give you a link.have a look but it's all fairly simple coz you don't even have to fill the laser cut if you don't want to-you can just go round if you are careful.

awsome thanks. so the last L3 is on the right or left?

Reply to mustang91gt

so if i bump the fsb up to 166 and turn the multipier down so im still runnin around 1.8ghz, would that work probably?

Reply to mustang91gt

It, in theory would work depending on many other factors. Mostly being the quality of your ram. And your cooling.

the last l3 is the right.
that oc should work but it does depend on the factors trixta mentions.next on the list would probably be the stepping of your 2200

yah iv been reading up a bunch on pentiums. im thinkin bout maybe buildin me a system and seein how it is compared to amd. i mean geez intel is startin to really pull away from amd with the 3ghz cpus. and arent p4's more overclockable than athlons?

Reply to mustang91gt

well intel are ahead in MHz but the PR rating seems to be right for amd-the xp 2800 generally outperforming a p4 2.8 afaik.
as for being more overclockable, that is debatable-intels have long been easier to oc because of the bus lock allowing substantial fsb overclocking even under stock cooling.but now with the nforce 2 chipset it is a bit more even.now for amds you can get a bus lock and there is the advantage of fiddling with the multiplier, which you can't do with p4s.this system i am using now has an xp2400 running at 166X13.5 which is xp 2800 speed and it is 100% stable.this is under air cooling too-just a volcano 7+ and a couple of case fans.

nice. in a few mins ima try and unlock this thing and see how it goes along the lines of a 166mhz bus. i know at a 133mhz bus. the peripheral cards run ad 1/4 the speed-33mhz... when you go to 166mhz fsb, does the divider change? or still stay at 1/4?

Reply to mustang91gt

depends on your mobo.some change the divider to 1/5 when you hit 166fsb to avoid oc'ing the pci bus.

welp. i unlocked my cpu by adding a metal jumped between the 2 pins on the bottom of the cpu. i tried 166x11, and ran the ddr at 1.7 volts. it ran stable for a while, but it died. after a few tests and underclocks... the highest it will run at stable is 150mhz. looks like i need some better memory

Reply to mustang91gt

are you using pc2100?if so, that will definitely be stopping you.if you get some ddr333 you could probably run your cpu in sync at 12 multiplier, maybe more.
