My firend had their eye on the HP Pavillion DV6-1200 artist edition, with these main specs:

AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile Processor RM-75
2.2 Ghz, Level 2 cache 1 MB

4096 MB - Important

320 GB
5400 rpm

Optical drive type
Lightscribe Super Multi DVD Writer (+/-R +/-RW) with Double Layer support
Create silkscreen-quality disc labels direct from your PC with LightScribe: Just burn, flip, burn.

802.11 b/g
Wireless capability

External I/O ports
4 USB 2.0 (4th shared with eSATA port), 1 HDMI connector, 1 eSata connector, 1 VGA port, 1 RJ45 ethernet connector, 2 headphones-out, 1 mic-in, 1 IEEE 1394, consumer IR, cable docking connector

Display size
15.6" Diagonal High Definition HP LED Brightview Display BID (nothing smaller than this)
Display resolution
1366 x 768

Graphic subsystem name
ATI Mobility Radeon HD 4650
Video RAM
Up to 2815 MB total graphics memory with 1 GB dedicated DDR3 (very important, will be a gaming laptop)

This laptop went out of stock some time in the summer and was discontinued a few months I need to find them a replacement laptop.

This will be mainly a Gaming Laptop/Daily work laptop, so needs Good Memory/Graphics to run many things at once and do gaming.

And a 'Pretty' cover on the laptop. :D

On a more serious note, I was more looking for something like the HP laptop, and wondered if anyone had any helpful suggestions? I realise it being 'pretty' will be hard to find but it is also the least important part, and really doesn't matter.

Well the DV6-2144NR is almost the same, but with the newer Turion II cpu, might be an option? I'm not really sure if you'd consider it pretty or not though, since thats purely a matter of personal opinion.

Thanks, We've put the search on hold but will look that Laptop up :)

OP: That Mobility 4650 video card is strictly middle-tier - compare its performance HERE , since you say gaming is a big issue...

@Fazers, yes but so is cost. And I'm trying to find a balance. But the search is on hold anyway.

Good thing. . . I'd wait until second week of January to February to start looking for deals. . MacWorld being the second week of February I can also most assure that is when they will be announcing i7 along with everyone else that hasn't yet.

Here are three computers to look into. They all have a faster cpu and better gpu. I also stayed under $800 for all of these.

Here are some places that can help you compare cpu and gpu power:

Good luck

You could also go with an i7 if you really wanted to step it up, but for gaming i'm not sure how much of an increase it will give you. The laptop is $999.99.

It is a pretty good gaming laptop for casual gaming. If you like to play high end games in high details (like Crysis), I would recommend you to pick a top gaming laptop...
