Serial number of Inspirion 8500

Where on the system is the serial number? I see the service tag and a
couple of other numbers but nothing listed as a serial number. I want
it so if the confuser gets stolen I will have it on hand.

Service Tag = Serial Number on a Dell.

Service tag = serial number.
Its under the laptop. Its also in the BIOS.
You can put a boot password in the BIOS. You then need to enter it every
time the laptop is powered on.
If stolen the person can't use the laptop at all.
