Ok, this nails the nail into the coffin in the fact that I know nothing about computers. What is a VGA adapter ? Does it allow a laptop to connect to larger monitor ? Not really sure, any help would be greatly appreciated.

LOL, It depends on how the term is being abused. VGA adapter would traditionally mean Video Graphics Array adapter, aka your video card, or if it's integrated, your video chip, or if it's integrated into another chip, your video processing unit. AKA the thing that makes stuff appear on your screen.

Most laptops have a 15-pin VGA output that will allow you to connect to a monitor. Most will also allow you to run both displays at the same time, though many would limit you to the same setting for both. Some laptops even have a TV output.

Oh, the thing I should mention is that there are other products besides graphics cards that have the words VGA and Adapter in them. For instance, there's the "DVI to VGA Adapter", a block for converting a Digital Flat Pannel connector to a 15-Pin CRT Monitor. Then theirs the Macintosh Video to VGA adapter, another adapter block for connecting a different pin arrangement monitor. And several more products that use the words "VGA" and "Adapter" in their names.
