Will an XP 3000+ work in a A7N8X mobo?

Well, will an Athlon XP 3000+ work in an Asus A7N8X mobo? The mobo specs say it will accept any Athlon XP up to 2800+, but as long as they still use the same socket, shouldn't a 3000+ work just fine? It's not a big deal really because right now I have a 2700+ so I don't need to upgrade any time soon, I'm just wondering if I have room to upgrade down the road.

Asus MOBOs are the best in town, so I think when the Athlon XP 3000+ hit the stores, they will bring new BIOS updates for it, and cause it will run at 166Mhz FSB the multipliyer would be like 14, 15, or 16 dont know really, but it will run smoothly with a large fan attached to it... i mean a really powerfull fan. :)

Not necessarily BullFire. That's what I thought when I bought my A7V333 about 8 months ago with an XP2100+, I was planning to upgrade to a 333 FSB CPU when they became available. Big mistake.
Now, according to Asus, I need a Revision 2 A7V333 to use any of the new 333 FSB processors, and mine is a Revision 1.
I think this is illegal, because according to VIA, all KT333 chipset motherboards should support the 333 FSB processors, after all, that's why the chipset is called "333".

Wasn't it called the 333 because it supported PC2700/333 RAM? At least that was my take on it, not it supported the 333 FSB.

If it ain't broke, take it apart & see why not!

Take a look at: http://www.viatech.com/en/apollo/KT333.jsp

The second paragraph says:

"The VIA Apollo KT333 is the first VIA chipset to feature DDR333 memory offering 25% more memory bandwidth to the CPU. Supporting DDR200/266/333 memory and a complete range of 200/266/333MHz Front Side Bus AMD Athlon™ XP and AMD Duron™ processors..."

So the "333" was supposed to be both for DR333 memory AND 333Mhz FSB processors.

Sure hope your Right!
I just ordered one Last nite! ( and a Gig a RAM!)
From the article, it sure looks like it's going to.
Hopefully, it will run the planned XP improvements up thru 3400+!

Not that it's a major obstacle, the A7N8X has a passively cooled northbridge. If you plan on running that thing at 400mhz fsb, you may need to add a fan to it. Emphasis on may, reality on the add.
