Interesting conclusion. I can't believe they'd benchmark using some of that software. Photoshop 5.5 is how old? DW 3.0 is even older....

That review with Aces used Photoshop 7.0.......
And I'd call Battlefield 1942, 3DSMax and Lightwave to be pretty compelling benchmarks as well as AutoCAD (although they may have bothered to use 2003, not 2002).

At most it should have been XP2900+. I liked the Xbit Labs focus on the Bus Disconnect temperature differences. I didn't think it was that slow, but it's no P4 killer.

sup melt. haven't seen ya in some time. Ya, this pr system is pissing me off- for my purposes amd would be the only way to go b/c it's great fpu but for others wtf, absolute bs. And the price is ridiculous- p4 3.06 w/ ht is cheaper! Ever since this pr system I've begun losing respect for amd- especially w/ thoroughbreds and now barton. Honestly, they need to pick themselves up- if hammer isn't a killer then I'm gonna be very very very dissapointed.

I don't think many people will buy this chip, I think its the chips that will come after it. AMD really put themselves ahead of the game. Athlons are better than pentium 4's because they run with a lower clock rate and you get the same performance. AMD just mad it even worse but getting the same performance with an even lower clock rate, plus they fixed the temperature problems. So now they can just keep raising the clock rate for a while to keep up with Intel, while intel has to force the Pentium 4 to its limits more and more. Also, AMD might come out with a new version with a 200 mhz bus, so it would be faster, plus it'd have a sychronized bus with ddr400, so it be even more faster. AMD may not have blown away Intel, but they put themselves in a nice position to make it easier on themselves in the future. Also, they've got 2 more cards coming out on top of that.

p4 can scale up to 10Ghz, I think Intel is simply waiting for amd, as stated elsewhere, they cpuld just accelerate their timetables.

Its certainly interesting how opinions vary amongst the reviewers who got their hands on the chips.
Generally dissapointed in the PR rating systemthis time.

who here will by the XP3000 though???
ah heck that! Get the XP2500+ then overclock the poo outta it.

I liked sudihans review... cauz they did serious sam benchmarks

plus the guys at sudihan managed to OC their baby up to 2600Mhz @ 200FSB with 1.95v on aircooling!!!

wowzers.

I believe AMD has finally come back in terms of CPU scaling. A few months ago the overclocks of such caliber demanded great cooling, and the scaling had problems where the XP2.66GHZ woudl perform worse than a lower clocked one. I believe AMD finally fixed that and is much improving. Our local MetalRocker has an XP1800 at 1.66GHZ, running 100% load at 32ºC on his modded hybrid Volcano 7/7+. This warrants the absolute coolest air AMD ever.
Then you got most recent AMD chips being cool, as well as some claiming they overclocked their Tbred B 1700+ to 2.3GHZ. It is safe to say AMD has done much to improve their chips' thermal conditions, yeilds, and overclockability. If the XP2500+ is the very same as the XP3000, then I would say an OC to 2.33GHZ on standard air (POReference Volcano 7) is an excellent OC. Its performance is quite up there, and the 2.5GHZ OC was a good rival to the 3.06GHZ. Unfortunatly as more apps are becoming more clock speed dependant than IPC, the Athlon desperatly needs more clock speed than IPC boosts. Forget SSE2 and HT optimizations, in that respect, the P4 deserves much praise. The Lightwave test shows a 2.26GHZ P4 being over 40% better per clock than the XP2.25GHZ.

Damn people who leave this place forever. What's gotten into them?
I'm surprised Meltdown has not appeared when Intel is in the light.

Speaking of Melty comming back, I haven't seen a post from Raystonne in AGES!

My OS features preemptive multitasking, a fully interactive command line, & support for 640K of RAM!
