I have a compaq deskpro P2-300 with 256 ram and I am unable to get win
XP to run on it. It just reboots and said it can not find the operateing
system . Help

It should install, but honestly, it will be awfully slow. I run it on a
P3-450 and it isn't useable as a desktop (at least to me).

Have you considered Windows 2000? It would be a better choice.

Just a personal note; I have seen Windows in all of it's various
renditions installed on woefully inadequate machines and yes it did run.
But as a quality of life issue for the machine, it would have been kinder to
the user to have simply put it out of it's misery.

It just goes to prove that with enough dogged perseverance (and/or blind
ignorance) you can make anything work, the trick is to make it work well.
(Of course if it's a government contract it need only pay well. Ever see
windows 95 w/the Office suite, work on a machine with only 4 Mb of RAM?)
