Yeah in one article I read yesterday about the Tsunami's effects, a small paragraph was discussing the US' aid in this, and though it seemed like a subtle passage, I was easily reminded of this discussion with Ned and you.

I saw a graphic on FOX that listed each country's donation... We were at the top, France was last with $139,000!!! I searched for it, but could not find it on line...

UN A--holes complaining about the amount of money the US is giving for disaster relief . . . really.

Believe me . . . the money "pledged" by the USA will wind up being a small portion of the money, help and supplies sent by "Americans".

The figure pledged does not include Red Cross, churches, private donations, etc., etc..

The U.N., more and more, can go get stuffed.
How much has India, Indonesia or Malaysia contributed to America to offset the trillion dollar hit on our economy (which for those who don't know is why we went from pseudo budget surpluses to real budget deficits) resulting from 9-11?

Malaysia has the tallest building in the world (for now). The economy of Indonesia is growing exponentially and how many jobs have relocated from the USA to India?

Socialism not Sanctions is at the root of the current flap.

What outraged Powell was this Norwegian UN shill bolstering his boast about the percentage of the GNP in Western countries given to foreign aid was too low, or "stingy" compared to "Progressive" countries as he described it.

He inferred the US should be at 0.7% , like Norway rather than the 0.014% of the GNP it currently allots.

But this Norwegian herring is red in more ways than one. In total dollars the US is the undisputed leader in providing aid to distressed countries.

The UN official claimed the reason for the US penury was we are not taxed enough. And unbelievably , we the people, want to be taxed more.

While the self righteous socialist p*rn producing "neutral" Scandinavians "enjoy" their 80% tax rate and government provided utopia, the once proud and mighty Viking warriors must be turning in their graves and retching.

The UN needs to be re-engineered. It has become totally dysfunctional by a corruption that has corroded its core.

Lobbying for higher US taxes is NOT their mission. We have plenty of domestic parasites, we don't need them.

I agree that what America gives will be a huge portion of the money that goes to these contries. What I am pointing out is that proportionatly America is donating no more than any other contry.
Its your "My coutry is better than everyone else's" attitude that pisses me off. No your not being stingy but you are also not being any better than anyone else!

What you think other countries dont have private charities either?

Mate if they could afford to give us money we wouldnt need to be giving them charity!

USA is the greatest country in the world(but thats my opinion) it all relates back to what Rich said, it is hard for me to tolerate the anti-American rituals that have been going around here lately. do we donate? yes. do others donate? yes. which is better? neither, they are there for a common cause of wellbeing. with that being said, does it make the USA less because we donate less percentage wise than other countries(although more money)? no.

I can understand why you would not appreciate someone critising your county, and I respect that. What I dont like is people saying that America is better than my county, because just like you are proud of your county I am proud of mine.

As well you should be. The critisism is used to make those that use it to feel better about themselves.

The problem is the irrational anti-americanism. All too often overseas I'd hear people say they hate Americans. My response was "Oh, all 290 million of us?". That pretty much ended that conversation. "Oh, you're different". No I'm not, I'm an American!

Disagreeing with one or two or a handfull of American policies or even the President at large does not qualify someone to carpet bomb us all with anti-Americanism in every situation. We're too cheap, we're too mean, we're too capitalistic, we're too fat, we're too....

Enough already.

We do far greater good than bad. The world can't have it both ways. They can't complain complain complain and then demand that we do more and pay more. This goes along with the whole UN since we're the largest contributor on a per dollar basis yet everyone still complains that we should spend more. Why?

As far as your patriotism, that's fine, you come from a great country as well.
