My wife is.
While she loves being involved with pins, she doesn't play often.
She likes to go to shows, meet people, even search for pins/parts for
sale if someone needs anything specific, and so on. She knows almost
everyone in the netherlands and belgium who's bus with pins.
But she's not a player.
The last years we usually had around 10 machines in our house.
She will play a pin when it comes in, but after a few games usually
she has enough. Examples: she wanted a JY because she loved playing it
on location. I buy one, shop it, and when it's shopped she plays it
once and then I can sell it because she doesn't like it anymore.
A friend of us had a NF for sale, it had to sell quickly, she also
liked playing it, so we can borrow it from him and try to sell it.
So we drive 2 hours to pick it up, set it at our house.. She plays
like 5 games the first day, and the next months until it was sold she
didn't play it anymore (luckily I did play it almost every day).
Anyway, just to show you, she does not play often.
Funhouse however is the only exception.
We bought our first FH now about 3 years ago. She loved it from the
first game she played, and that was also the only pin she played
often. More than an hour every day the first weeks we had him.
She talked to Rudy, shouted to him when he was laughing with her.
Unfortunately about a year later we really had to sell some machines
and FH was one of them. We had it for a while and didn't play it a lot
anymore so we both thought it was ok to sell it.
Were we wrong.. a few months later we both missed Rudy. It was like
our baby was gone. My wife said to me I could do whatever I wanted but
I had to get her a FH. Supply of FH is low here and as I knew this
machine was a keeper, I wanted one as nice as possible. She contacted
a lot of people, always asking if they had or knew one for sale.
In the end it took almost a year before I found a FH for sale that I
liked. I had traveled to the Netherlands a few times to inspect a FH
for sale but usually it was too expensive or in too bad condition
(really worn pf, another had been stored behind a large window so was
badly faded and had a dried out pf, ..). Anyway, finally we found one
for sale which sounded ok. Didn't have pf mylar so the blue wasn't
discolored badly, pf wasn't mint but no large wear spots either. Not
the best machine ever but also not a bad looking one.
Worst thing of all, we finally bought this FH, and didn't have room to
store it ! Not enough room in our house as we already had too many
ther pins and were busy building the gameroom in the garden.
The construction of the gameroom couldn't go fast enough for her, so I
could finally get FH out of storage and set it up so we could play it.
You can't believe how frustrating it was, after that whole time we
finally had one back but were not able to play it.
It was in storage at her grandparents house (which has a large storage
room when you enter the house) so every time she visited them she
couldn't help herself and walked over to the FH and said something to
Rudy. (I guess her grandparents thought she was going mental
Anyway, FH is now since a year in our gameroom. From all games that's
the one she plays most. Other games she sometimes plays are TZ and
Tommy, and that's it. MM, CV, ToM, BSD, WW, .. she never plays.
But Rudy, that's the game she always comes back to.
He'll now never leave our house anymore (unless we find a better
looking FH first). We also have all the promos, for the largest one
(his head) she made a part so it stands up and that's now the topper
on the backbox.
Aeneas.
