Ok I had a small number of a new FH item made for a giveaway. This is
not for your pinball, but rather something to show off to your friends.

They are not for sale.

Im the sole judge and the contest is to basically tell me (by posting
in this thread) why you think you are Rudys biggest fan. Contest ends
Friday. I will announce the winners (2 of you) on Saturday and ship
this item for free, even to an out of country winner.

Then next week we will have a FT contest.

Ok, prove it!

Sorry, Darin. I don't want to play. I don't care for the game at all.
I'll wait for the FT contest instead.....or you can just send me the
prize now. :)

Ummm, because I paid $1500 for a very nice FH in early September 2001,
back when they were going for $1K? (Hey, it was a _damn_ nice
example!)

Because I went through and bought it EVEN THOUGH I needed the money for
the down payment on my house, which closed on October 6th, 2001? (I
knew that I would never, EVER find another one this nice that was also
a sample game. Until the repro's came along, I was right!!)

Because I went through THIS HELL ( http://tinyurl.com/8qomk ) trying
to get my FunHouse ready for a pre-expo party! It's just _not_ a party
without Rudy, and you've never _truly_ worked a game until you WANT to
beat it with a hammer!! :)

Because I -refuse- to modify my FunHouse with speakers and amps and
such, since it is an original sample game. (Different transformer,
different rails, different sound board, different lamp sockets, etc.)
This is the ONLY game in my collection that has this exclusion; I'll
modify damn near anything else! (Including two friends' BBB's, if they
ever see the light of day.)

'Cuz I annoyed Pat Lawlor enough writing the ultimate FH prototype
guide that he posted a reply on RGP! :) See http://tinyurl.com/9ta6e
..

OK, maybe that doesn't make me the _ultimate_ Rudy fan. But a damn
good, and consistent, one. :)

I bugged Dave Stambaugh for over a year and even bid on his punk Rudy face
until he finally sent it to me free. So while not a true Rudy fan, I'm might
be the biggest punk Rudy fan. LTG :)

Darin-

I think Funhuose Bob should just get this by default. His months and months
of searching for the perfect example and then stepping up to the plate and
spending $9k for Grover's.

Lets see what I can do.

I played that thing so much when he was at LTG's, I:

(might have been me) took out the kickout coil connection.
Broke two targets.
Cracked the main ramp.
jammed the left coin mech.
later, bent a corner of the ramp.
later then took off a small part of the ramp.
just happened to be playing it when the lower GI started to fail.
jammed the right coin mech.
two ball hang ups.
dismounted the switch at the bottom of the main ramp.
hit the ramp lights with the skill shot plunged ball countless times.
I cant claim responsibility for the eyelids but lets just say I did that
too.

no wonder that thing isnt there anymore :)

Rudy got me hooked on Pinball, plain and simple. When I was younger,
Great America was full of FH's. My parents would drop us off, and more
often than not, I would spend all my money on that machine, and forego
eating for the day. I was finally able to buy one last year, and
probably over-paid for a re-import from Germany with a bad PF, faded
sides, and all the good stuff. Right now I am just waiting for the
funds to build up enough to restore it, but Rudy gets played every day.
I store it at my grandma's house, and even she has developed a love
for Rudy. Hell, she even has the current GC score on the machine, and
I cannot get *close* to it.

I think Cliffy may already have one of these items, based by a post Cliffy
made earlier this week.. but if not, he is definately 1 of the top 2

My other vote goes for Bob Rentzer!

And Eric, if you're ever in Indiana, you can come over and play some pin,
but I'm going to have to require a breakage deposit for the FH.

Make one of those for Radical! and I will run the thread to it's maximum
characters allowed. I've been into skateboards even before I was old enough
to ride a bicycle. I hate skiing but for some reason Snowboarding is the
best. Water skiing, NO thanks just give me one of those damn boards. 1 board

Darin,

For me, it's quite simple: If it weren't for Rudy, I wouldn't be a
pinhead. Funhouse is the game that got me hooked, and there isn't a single
aspect of the game I don't love. For me, hitting the ball in Rudy's mouth to
start multiball is the second most gratifying shot in all of pinball. The
first, of course, is hitting the ball in the trap door to elicit Rudy's
panic-stricken scream! FH will be last game to ever leave my collection. No,
it will never leave my collection!

To win the prize, I hereby vow to name my next born son Rudolf Cliffy
Giesting!!

>Im the sole judge and the contest is to basically tell me (by posting
>in this thread) why you think you are Rudys biggest fan.

My wife is.

While she loves being involved with pins, she doesn't play often.
She likes to go to shows, meet people, even search for pins/parts for
sale if someone needs anything specific, and so on. She knows almost
everyone in the netherlands and belgium who's bus with pins.
But she's not a player.

The last years we usually had around 10 machines in our house.
She will play a pin when it comes in, but after a few games usually
she has enough. Examples: she wanted a JY because she loved playing it
on location. I buy one, shop it, and when it's shopped she plays it
once and then I can sell it because she doesn't like it anymore.
A friend of us had a NF for sale, it had to sell quickly, she also
liked playing it, so we can borrow it from him and try to sell it.
So we drive 2 hours to pick it up, set it at our house.. She plays
like 5 games the first day, and the next months until it was sold she
didn't play it anymore (luckily I did play it almost every day).
Anyway, just to show you, she does not play often.

Funhouse however is the only exception.
We bought our first FH now about 3 years ago. She loved it from the
first game she played, and that was also the only pin she played
often. More than an hour every day the first weeks we had him.
She talked to Rudy, shouted to him when he was laughing with her.

Unfortunately about a year later we really had to sell some machines
and FH was one of them. We had it for a while and didn't play it a lot
anymore so we both thought it was ok to sell it.

Were we wrong.. a few months later we both missed Rudy. It was like
our baby was gone. My wife said to me I could do whatever I wanted but
I had to get her a FH. Supply of FH is low here and as I knew this
machine was a keeper, I wanted one as nice as possible. She contacted
a lot of people, always asking if they had or knew one for sale.
In the end it took almost a year before I found a FH for sale that I
liked. I had traveled to the Netherlands a few times to inspect a FH
for sale but usually it was too expensive or in too bad condition
(really worn pf, another had been stored behind a large window so was
badly faded and had a dried out pf, ..). Anyway, finally we found one
for sale which sounded ok. Didn't have pf mylar so the blue wasn't
discolored badly, pf wasn't mint but no large wear spots either. Not
the best machine ever but also not a bad looking one.

Worst thing of all, we finally bought this FH, and didn't have room to
store it ! Not enough room in our house as we already had too many
ther pins and were busy building the gameroom in the garden.
The construction of the gameroom couldn't go fast enough for her, so I
could finally get FH out of storage and set it up so we could play it.
You can't believe how frustrating it was, after that whole time we
finally had one back but were not able to play it.
It was in storage at her grandparents house (which has a large storage
room when you enter the house) so every time she visited them she
couldn't help herself and walked over to the FH and said something to
Rudy. (I guess her grandparents thought she was going mental :)

Anyway, FH is now since a year in our gameroom. From all games that's
the one she plays most. Other games she sometimes plays are TZ and
Tommy, and that's it. MM, CV, ToM, BSD, WW, .. she never plays.
But Rudy, that's the game she always comes back to.

He'll now never leave our house anymore (unless we find a better
looking FH first). We also have all the promos, for the largest one
(his head) she made a part so it stands up and that's now the topper
on the backbox.

Aeneas.

dang, i got all misty eyed reading the old r.g.p posts. Was having
flashbacks to 1989 when young whipper snappers enthusisasts of the
silver ball (cameron silver and louis kozizar) were talking about the
first place they were applying to after graduation was Williams. Look at
the intelligent discourse (and respect) Lawlor was getting. This used to
happen regularly from the pin manufacturers.

This disease of "oh yeah, my Buffer & compund is better than your
buffer" didn't exist. Sheilds was the only ass (compared to the dozens
that now take his place).

Korn is worthy of the prize not for his FH tale but for reminding us all
what r.g.p should once again be. How can anybody not read those posts
and ask themselves,"where did r.g.p go wrong."

Easy to fix. Get 4 to 6 companies cranking out 100,000 plus games a year
again and we'll have more to discus. LTG :)

and to prove it (and that I didn't make this all up):
check the logo of our website: http://www.flippers.be

My wife asked the graphic designer who made it to have a logo similar
to that of Funhouse :)

Im kinda new to the pinball thingy but Ive always wanted a
Funhouse after playing it. I love the whole carnival them type games
including Carnevil. Everything about the pin is lively including the
great color scheme. My Funhouse is fully shopped with more new parts
than old. New legs, rails, cabinet art, translight, plastics, rubbers
and ramps. I've installed a lampshade mod and will do Cliffy's
protectors. I first played Funhouse in an arcade in Waldorf, MD and
instantly became a fan. The layout is one of the best with great wide
open shots and a lot of depth. Funhouse has one of the most interesting
multi-ball set-ups ever conceived with putting Rudy sleep.

Pat Lawlor definitely had a great inspiration for this one from
Twilight Zones" "The Dummy" episode and "Magic" with Anthony Hopkins.

Funhouse is by far my favorite pin. I searched for two years and
finally was able to purchase one. I also have Darin's beautiful vinyls
and an overlay that I bought with the machine. I can't wait to make
this thing a cherry. As for why Funhouse is my favorite: For that we
have to wind the clock back a bit... When I was a young fella' my dad
would take me to his friend's bar every so often. I used to love going
because they always had a couple of pins in the back. The best part was
the owner, Angel, would give me a handful of quarters out of the
register to keep me busy while he and my dad would sit and catch up. It
was probably only a couple of dollars, but it was enough to keep me
busy playing pinball for well over an hour.

Pins would come and go from this place every few months so it gave me
an opportunity to play lots of different pins from the mid eighties up
through the early nineties. One day I remember walking back into the
back and seeing this bright blue pin that I had never seen before. I
immediately squeezed myself between two pins so I could examine the
playfield. And there was Rudy, sleeping peacefully at the top of the
playfield. I noticed his jaw was a separate piece from his head, and I
knew right away that I just had to get a ball in there. I dumped a
whole dollar into the machine to get the extra free plays and went to
work. About half way into my first ball, I fired one down Rudy's
sass-talking mouth. Man that felt good... suddenly the clock had
advanced to nearly midnight. At this point, I had no idea what that
meant. I knew I was supposed to shoot the ball somewhere, to get to
midnight, but in my rush to put my balls in Rudy's mouth I hadn't
fully taken in the playfield. Finally, with some random shot the ball
locked and Rudy went to sleep. (Poor guy must have a badly deviated
septum to snore that loud.) I knew instinctively that I had to get my
ball in his mouth once more. I was flipping fast and furious, fearful
that Rudy might awaken at any moment. At last, I made my shot and Rudy
came to life. What a thrill! Those are my first memories of Funhouse;
as vivid as it happened yesterday.

So you ask me to prove that I'm the biggest Funhouse Fan. Well,
Funhouse is what cemented my love for pinball. It's the reason I have
three pins in my home today. I spent two years saving and searching for
a Funhouse because I love it so much. Because of Funhouse, I wrote a
long cheesy essay about my first Funhouse experience in hopes of
winning some unknown Funhouse doodad. (I even put it into MS Word to
spell check it, then had my girlfriend proof read it.)

If 'fan' is the root word of fanatic, then you can count me as one.
