my comp locks up under full cpu load.

athlonxp 1700
msi k7n2 nforce2
pc2100 256mb of generic mem
and pc2100 128mb of generic mem
gainward gf4200 64mb
300watt psu generic
60gig maxtor and 120 wd hard drives

i cant figure out whats making it crash. would the generic memory cause it to lock up or would it be the psu? the comp was stable before i upgraded the mobo and mem.

Try it with each stick of memory separately. One could be bad. Also make sure they're not in the dual mode memory slots. Both should be the same size/brand to run in dual mode.

that is alot of power hungry equipment. I would kinda suggest a power supply shortage but then again I dont want you to go buy an expensive psu and it not be the problem. I suggest keeping an eye on your voltage rails especially the 12V rail and see if you are having any dips etc, which would cause system instability at full loads. You can add up your power consumption by just adding up the power requirements of each component....here is a great review you should read.

I would also suggest the memory idea the last guy suggested along with checking the bios to make sure you arent running your memory timings too aggressive for the generic ram.
