I've heard conflicting advice on this - what's better for avoiding eye strain? A bigger monitor - eg 22 TFT, 17 inch TFT etc? I'm doing a course that involves a fair amount of online work, and I'm trying to avoid eye strain.

Most eye strain was caused by the flickering in the older CRT monitors that was noticeable if the refresh rate was below something like 85 Hz. This flickering is not present in LCD monitors because they do not refresh in the same way.

If you mean eye strain caused by small text, the best way to fix that problem is zoom in on the webpage.

Yea as long as you don't have a < 85Hz CRT eye strain comes down to how you use your monitor and things you do to prevent it
