When I try to run a tracert I get this error

'TRACEROUTE' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

running xp home sp2, any ideas? I have no firewall or virus installed?

The correct syntax is Tracert

Install one, or if you prefer to run without a firewall or antivirus, that
is your right, but please get off line if so.

Also, it is NOT TRACEROUTE. It is Tracert

It may be a problem with your Path environmental variable

Open up a command prompt window.
Type Path and hit the enter key.
You should get, at the very least, this information returned:

C:\Windows\system32;C:\Windows;C:\Windows\System32\Wbem

If these three locations are not listed, you can go to Control
Panel -> System -> Advanced page -> Environmental Variables and
add them to the Path entry in the System variables box.

Usage: tracert [-d] [-h maximum_hops] [-j host-list] [-w timeout]
target_name

Options:
-d Do not resolve addresses to hostnames.
-h maximum_hops Maximum number of hops to search for target.
-j host-list Loose source route along host-list.
-w timeout Wait timeout milliseconds for each reply.
