am not an overcloker or gamer. just a hobbiest. not thinking on going for the most recent Barton. will the minimal differences between 26 and 2700 is worth the few extra $$$ or better save it for other techie stuff
thanks
Not extactly. AMD has to make is confusing. Well, there is a 2700+ with a 333 FSB. Then there is a 2600+ with a 333 FSB, and a 2600+ with a 266 FSB. Whatever you do, get one with the 333 FSB. They perform a lot better. Just make sure you get memory that is DDR 333. Corsair makes the best memory. I got Corsair DDR 400 2 X 256 MB sticks, with no problems. So, good luck.
When you guys say 333FSB and 266FSB is the bus actually 333 and 266MHz or do you mean that the FSB is 166 and 133 respectively and are doubling the speed to account for the ram using the leading and falling edges?
In the same regards when I see an intel motherboard / chip advertising 533Mhz FSB capable of using DDR ram what actual speed is the FSB? I don't know of any ram that runs at 533MHz so I assume the FSB has been multiplied by some multiple.
So if you were to buy a P4 and didn't want RDRAM but wanted the best performance without overclocking you would buy PC2100 ram so that it would run synchronously with your frontside bus? Or would you get performance enhancements with say PC3500? Would you see any lack in performance with PC3500?
