My users are getting this message when trying to sychronize the palm.
The error usually occurs when the user has logged into a computer
outside of their normal environment (own office.) We have Novell 6
servers, Windows 2K desktops. The users do not get a "normal" desktop
as all applications are launched from the Novell Application Launcher.
In order to get the Palm software to install, the desktop has to be
unrestricted for the user. We can then install the Palm software.
The desktop is again locked down and the Novell Application Launcher
takes over again. Everything is ok for the user until he/she logs
into another location. When they return to their own computer and
attempts to synchronize the Palm the error is displayed. At present
the only way to correct the issue is to reinstall the Palm software.
We originally thought that the problem was related to roaming
profiles. We are specifically looking for manuals or tools that allow
us to look into the Palm conduits and OS. We want to know what files
the Palm OS is trying to write to on Windows 2K. We also are trying to
find manuals on the sychronization process. Any help is appreciated.

Give the User 'Network Administrator' rights, not just local
administrator rights, and login as User.
Install the Palm Desktop and perform one hotsync so the registry gets
completely written.
Revoke 'Network Administrator' rights for the User.

Hope this helps.
