I recently purchased an Asus A7N266-VM and an XP 2000+. Board was nothing but a headache, only posting every other reboot, and I actually got half way through formatting my drive before the screen flashed and froze. Board never posted again. I tried everything, new RAM, different jumper settings, new PSU. Could it be my CPU, how do you know if its burnt? I don't think it is, will it be obvious it is?

Intermittent posting does sound like a dead component. Could be a defective board, bad power supply, or cheap power supply on a bad power grid. My first guess would be the board, but with so many bad power supplies out there, it's a coin toss. I have the privalege of owning thousands of computer parts, so I can swap out the component I think is defective...until I find the right one.
