Check out VIA's CPU page at...

They even did a reply to the THG video about "what happens when I take off the heatsink"... It's great comedy.

Actually when the C3 hit 1 Ghz THG did an article pointing to all the good things about the processor. Here's the link....http://www17.tomshardware.com/cpu/20020605/index.html

Let's all settle our political differences with a LAN.

The C3 sux. Even the latest version sux. This is a processor originally designed by Cyrix, maker of the world's worst processors, and later developed by VIA, the maker of the world's worst chipsets. Why not just go buy an AMD K6-2 500 and be done with it?

Oh, BTW, idot is a manufacture of eMachines clones. I used to sell idot computers to people too stupid to understand quality.

ok a low power CPU

is a bloody good idea!!!!!!!!!!!!

i come froma family that trys to conserve power so to me its a great sight to see a CPU that only outputs 12watts of heat rather than 75watts like mine is doing now!!!!

p.s. my computer is soooooooo noisy that i go deaf near it so having a quiet C3 in my system would be nice

get a water cooling system, with a 120MM radiator fan (instead of 80MM's), that will quiet things down a bit. :)

My Duron 1300 eats P4's for dinner. Oh, the Celerons make a nice snack too.

You could get a Celeron 300A and run it at 450MHz, it would consume about the same power and have about the same performance. You could in fact get a whole system, used, for about the price of that motherboard. Or simply underclock at PIII Tualatin to 100MHz bus, it would probably still have twice the performance, and around the same heat output. Or underclock an Athlon.

actually i'm not in it for the processor, I am interested in the BIOS supported DVD and CD playback, i think it's a sweet idea to be able to play a DVD or CD in a machine without having to load an OS.

CD playback is easy. You just plug in the power and speakers to the sound out connections. DVD playback would be cool.

I like the C3 Processor. even the eden mini-itx platform. Great email server and round the clock eDonkey and Kazaa machine. Even as a media server for the living room.

It definiently has its place in the world. But it wouldn't be in the gaming or hardcore multimedia sector.

Water cooling is for the weak. Get liquid nitrogen.

I don't think ViA ever aimed for that sector.

man, a fully self sufficient box capable of playback of dvds and cds, man why didnt any one think of that before? if they had surely you could find such a device for 60 bucks anywhere.

my computer is so fast, it completes an endless loop in less than 4 seconds!
