I just got a new battery for my notebook. Theoretically. Li batteries don't suffer from the dreaded "memory" issues that NiCd/NiMH do. I've found that claim to be bogus. At least to a certain extent. My question is what is best to get the most out of a battery? Should I charge and then totally discharge before charging again? That would seem to be advisable as that is the way to treat the issue in other battery types. Any experiences would be helpful.
I believe you should charge them up fully the first time you insert them and then do it again for the same duration. This seems counter intuitive but apparently it works.
Thereafter treat the laptop as you would a cell phone or MP3 battery -- charge it more randomly than you might normally charge a laptop.
Apparently some people tend to use battery until the computer signals that the battery is nearly spent and then dash for the charger. Others run the computer on the charger much of the time. Neither really suits lion batteries.
