The speed difference is not double just because the amount of memory is double though. According to CNET's review of the 8GB Nook Tablet (which has the 512mb instead of 1GB of RAM), you can only notice a difference in speed with multiple apps open and even then it is "a second or a fraction of a second" speed difference.
