is it safe to use your pc as a guitar amp

There are special sound boards for that application.Using the proper board will keep you from damaging the computer.

What do you mean by "Safe"? It will sound like crap unless you have high-end speakers. But I played guitar though the PC before, and there are virtual amp programs you can download that will distort the guitar input.

I suggest a MIDI type interface though with the proper inputs as the guy above stated.
