I'm changing my mobo - so I took off my fan and the cpu ... I'm wondering how do I put back everything ? Do i need to buy and put any special liquid between the cpu and the fan or can I directly put back everything as it was before ??? (I read the existence of some special liquid that can be put between the CPU and the Fan ...)

Tx

You will need to do some cleaning, polishing and re-applying of thermal heat sink grease. You can get heat sink grease at Radio Shack and most computer stores have it as well. Without the thermal grease I guarantee it will overheat.

The first think is to take some rubbing alcohol and get all the old thermal stuff off both CPU and heatsink. If it's the rubber stuff you may have to scrape it off very gently... scratching the CPU can be a disaster.

Next you need to clean and re-apply the thermal grease. An article on how I do this is here: http://forumz.tomshardware.com/hardware/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&p=127573#127573

If you want photographs, the Arctic Silver instructions are excellent and the process can be used with any heat sink grease. These instructions are here: http://www.arcticsilver.com/arctic_silver_instructions.htm

Good Luck...
