I opened up the case and there's not holding the motor in place. How is it secured?

The motor may not be mounted on a fixed plate. You should not touch it. The motor and head should be free to move in order to align and to follow tracks. If you have no disk error message, then you may have a dirty laser head, dirty/faulty disk, or internal circuitry failure.
