I'm looking to buy my fiance a new laptop. She uses PC's and I use Apple computers (OS X is the main supported operating system where I work). Because of this I literally have no idea what sort of computer to recommend to her (she doesn't want an Apple). So I would really appreciate some help. Please.
1_What is your budget?
sub $1000, although I'm willing to go a little over. The sweet spot would be $800.
2_What is the size of the notebook that you are considering?
3_What screen resolution do you want?
1366 x 768; however, I'm not really married to anything
4_Do you need a portable or desktop replacement laptop?
She wants a small computer, sexiness is a plus here.
5_How much battery life do you need?
6_Do you want to play games with your laptop?
Nope. Maybe mine sweeper
7_What other tasks do you want to do with your laptop?
Lots of flash movies, video watching, mp3 playing, multitasking with word, excel, firefox, and some data analysis software (spss). Really though she'll mostly use it for the triumvirate of word, excel, and firefox.
8_How much storage (H.D.D Capacity) do you need?
I'd like to get her something north of 250GB.
10_How long do you want to keep your laptop?
She's had her current XPS since 2005-6 (so I guess about 5 years).
11_What kind of Optical drive do you need? DVD ROM/Writer,Bluray ROM/Writer,Etc ?
She doesn't need an internal one, as long as buying a separate one is an option.
12_Please tell us about the brands that you prefer to buy from them and the brands that you don't like and explain the reasons. Well, I like Apple. She likes Dell; however, the build quality on her XPS was poor. Very poor. I've noticed this on several of my friends' Dell computers as well (I don't know if this is just subjective opinion here--not trying to offend anyone). I'm open to anything
13_What country do you live in?
14_Please tell us any additional information if needed.
I guess this is the same answer as #3.
Thanks everyone, your help is genuinely appreciated. She really does want a thin and light. She's been eyeing the Dell Vostro v13, but I haven't heard anything about it.
