Connected laptop to tv no sound

i have connected lop top to Sony Bravia TV got superb picture but no sound from TV . I have used Belkin (make)audio cable for sound with no joy.
I have also tried HDMI connection Lop top to TV but i couldn't get picture or sound .
Can any one help please

well it depend does your hdmi output support sound as well?I guess not so plug a cable to the sound input of your tv from the sound output of your laptop
