Problem with computer

Hello all, i was wondering whether you guys could give me some advice.

I recently left my computer on, unattended for a short period of time. When i returned, the power light remained on,there was no sound from the fans and the monitor was blank. When i unplugged it then, turned it on again (after i had plugged it in ) the power light came on, but there was not a sound from the computer (fans etc.)

My fan had been making a noise prior to that, and i was wondering if it would be possible for the fan to break down and then somehow effect the CPU? (overhaeating)

I am completely stumped and am not sure where to begin looking or testing.

Suggestions and advice will be appreciated,

as long as you had a heatsink on the processor, there is a very small chance that your processor would overheat, even without a fan turning.....especially at idle temperatures!...
My guess is you have a bad power supply or something went bad in your system (cpu which is doubtful, memory which it may be)...the first thing I would do is replace the power supply.

Personally i think ur CPU Fan is dead...and whats happening is the system shut itself off to prevent damage to the processor....and it wont actually turn on now its a protection feature.....pop open ur computer and take a look.....

BTW detials help a lot....what CPU, motherboard, ram, video card, power supply, etc. etc. etc. do u have ?

if what metal is saying is correct....the quick approach would be to take one of yoru case fans and plug it up to the three prong connector and if it boots then he is right if not hes wrong ...gotta keep giving metal a hard time
