The 5870 I'd be willing to believe. The GTS 360, I'm doubting a little. Why do I get the feeling that it's just another rebadged G92 chip?

I too leery on the GTS 360. Usually it takes awhile for the mobile chips to come about compared to the launch of the corresponding desktop series...if they're released at the same time either nvidia has been working hard, or, as lostandwandering said, it's just another rebadge.

Edit: Also, what's up with that pricing? That doesn't seem remotely equal; a midrange chip, less memory, and a smaller screen for (practically) the same price as a machine with a 5870M?

The link doesn't say much else other than the 360 is a rebadged 240...I could say the same thing with as much truth behind it at this point. We need proof.

GTS 360 runs on GT215 core and is an overclocked GTS 260M, with GDDR5 it may match GTX260, but will not exceed it, will run cooler though

BTW for any interested buyers of the G73H-A1, GentechPC Giving DDR3 1333MHz as opposed to DDR3 1066MHz on XoticPC for the same price

Well i thought GTS 360M wouldn't be a whole new card,i at least hope HD 5870 will be a powerful card, waiting for benchies :D

Reply to Maziar

5870 will be probably more like 4870 or 4890 power in a laptop. Talk about power.

GeForce 8, 9, 200 and now possibly the 300. So that's three, definite, and counting.

Well the asus model costs $1600 which is quite a good price for such a config

1024MB GTS 360M? Yeah the 360 chip is suppose to have a 384-bit bus so that doesn't work out at all. I'm more willing to believe that it's a G92 chip with GDDR5. DX10 only :D.

The 360M is almost definitately a rebadged chip.... go to the customize screen and it even says " nVidia GeForce GTS 360M 1,024MB PCI-Express GDDR5 DX10" I suppose it's possible its finally a gt200 based chip, but I doubt even that.
Either way I'm fine with my G51VX-RX05 I managed to get on sale for $550 sealed :D

Reply to kiren

I think the GT200's were just too big for notebook use. They eat power and the chips were..well, huge. It's probably a nicely-modded G92.

Hmm.... the 5870M is tempting (me need a laptop for Collage soon :P ). We'll see how things are when February-March comes.

Darn, I bought this AsusTeK G72GX.....05 at Best Buy, the mouse pad is driving me crazy, sound controls as well, everything else has set new standards of the word perfect for me, but I am currently hating Asus for leaking an updated and upcoming ATI model the same day I purchased this one ARGGG!!!!!!.

Now I will always feel like I have 2nd best, because im almost 100% sure the ATI one is going to have a built in TV tuner, DX11 GPU that will almost surly be faster then GTX260 yep, and there's no one to blame other them myself for Shopping at Best Buy.

Lucky, Mind sharing where/how?
I would take this one back, buy the 550 and use the remaining 500$ for a nice 42 inch 120MHZ 1080P

Clearance at the local best buy actually, only had one and it still had vista on it. Technically it was $650, but I had a $100 best buy card...

I hear it's the equivalent of a desktop 5750, according to notebookcheck at least.

I hope its not true,i was expecting more

Reply to Maziar

surely if it were the same as a desktop 5750, that would make it less powerful than a laptop 4870? aren't they comparable to a desktop 4850? all these comparisons confuse me :S

If it performs like a desktop HD 5750 then it will perform like a desktop GTS 250 which performs like a GTX 280M

Which is rather lame since it really won't be any better than a card that was developed 2 generations ago. way to go ATI :pfff:

exactly what i thought.

that can't be right surely?

i think notebookcheck is just being a little conservative, they cant have tested it yet right?. i would have expected the 5870m to lie somewhere in between a 5770 and a 5850.

This is huge, not many recent Asus laptops have had this, but Asus just made me glad even more that I pre-ordered my G73jh!

It supports raid 0 on it's 2 500gb 7200rpm hard drives! Something the previous G72 and G51j didn't.

Proof is right there! :D

Except it's not crippled like the HD5750, and has a higher core clock, so it will perform between the desktop HD5750 and 5770, and be the fastest chip out there, with the most features, and still consume less power than its competitors. Not bad for a laptop, even if it's a little less than some people had hoped for.

Definitely interesting, and also interesting to see what they do with the Redwood offspring too, should be alot of thise in mid-range/HTPC laptops.

Either way liking the new options, just wish the whole XGP thing were standard now too especially since these guys are offering the ViDock external with HD4650 (for both solutions), be better with an XGP.

Good base prices, but upgrading the Corei7 pricing is ridiculous, the 920XM costs ~$200 more than the chip itself, meaning that you get no discount for having started from the 720QM , frickin' brutall !! [:mousemonkey:2]

The price of the g51 with the 360m gts lowered 10 bucks, but they keep raising the price of the g73jh... :pfff: It's up to 1508 after cash discount w/o BD... I thinks it's going to raise even more so if you want one you need to hop on it now.

I just set one up for a friend. The thing is lightning fast, was watching bluray movie off the drive through hdmi on a sharp aquos 42 and playing modern warfare demo on the pc, and the bluray did not skip. The game was a little slower than usual though. Still very impressed. The WIFI is stronger than I expected, was getting a superb signal in an area where my other notebooks usually drop.

The things that I did not like:

-Asus did not pre-install in RAID. The OS is on a 120GB partition and the other partition is 340GB Data on same drive, the other drive is butchered into two partition as well. That gives you 4 drive letters, what a mess. Need to reinstall to take advantage of the raid features. Pain in the ass.
-No USB 3.0, right now not a big deal, but 2 years from now this will be a problem.
-No BluRay Player bundle from Asus, had to download Cyberlinks PowerDVD 9, runs great, but its a demo.
-The mouse that comes with this thing is wired, come on Asus! WTF?@# 3 extra bucks is that much of a big deal?
-No remote, ok I knew that, but since the mouse is wired, it makes it a further hurdle if you are using it to watch movies in the living room and have the pc next to the tv. At this price I would think they would include a remote. (Luckily my friend still has one from multimedia Asus she bought 4 years ago)

Conclusion:

Thing still kicks serious ASS and I would buy one if I had the coin to spare.

EDIT: BTW, there are (TWO) 2 X 500GB (7200rpm) drives in the G73JH-A1.
