I just put together a new computer with a ASUS P5P800 motherboard, 1gb Ram,
200gb hard drive. AMI BIOS, Marvell 88E8001 GB LAN controller (built in NIC)
and I am unable to access the Internet. Device manager lists the Network
adapter and I tried uninstalling and reinstalling. It also hangs whenever I
try to use dialup. It dials and hangs. Tested modem in Control panel and I
can Query the modem fine. I suspect that it has to do with my BIOS settings,
but I cannot figure it out. I am running WinXP Pro, SP1. Any help?

You installed chipset and other drivers supplied with your mobo and kit?

Hi,

Have you installed the LAN driver from the motherboard CD yet?

Yes, I installed all software and drivers, I believe it has to do with my
BIOS settings.

Because the NIC came with the Motherboard and the only software installed is
WinXP and the software that came with the MB. There are no firewalls or
virus protection and I can obtain an IP address.

But you do not normally dial a modem connected to a NIC. Do you have an
additional modem that you are talking about? You will need to install the
correct drivers for THAT modem.

Hi Paul,

Check with the MB vendor for an updated driver. The one on the MB disk may
not be fully up to date. If you can obtain an IP (aand how are you
connecting?), does it show a gateway address as well when you run ipconfig
/all from a command (cmd) prompt?
