How to tell what model xp2100, model 6 or 8?

How can one tell what model xp2100 cpu it is. Where are the markings on the cpu revealing this? Wether it be a model 6 or 8.

There are many ways to know it:
If the DIE is square it is 6. If it is a rectangle it is 8.
If the OPN start w/ AX only it is 6. If it starts w/ AXDA it is 8.

Thanks and crapp it's a 8 T-bred. I was hoping the problems I was having getting this chip was a result of a faulty chip, but this damn mobo doesn't support xp2100 t-breds just palominos.

What's your system specifications? Maybe w/ a BIOS flashing you can get your CPU to work.

Its an a7m266 mobo currently as of today runnning the lates beta of the bios which is 1.008beta. Even changed the cpu voltages but no go. Asuss's website says it only supports so far xp2100 (model 6's- palomino's) The processor i was trying to get to work was a modle 8 t-bred.

Asus says it suports T-Bred CPU. Maybe you don't have suficient cooling in the CPU or your PSU can't handle it. What's your PSU brand and your HSF?

Well on the asus website it says it only supports model 6's which are palomino's and a couple of people i've spoken with on the amd forums said that 2100tbreds do not work with this mobo. Check this link:

Oh, I have a brand new jsut instlled enrmax 435 watt psu, and the fan i got with the cpu which is a volcano 7+

Maybe that list is not actualized.

What happens when you try to boot?

nothing. not even beeps at post or after mem check. just a black screen . fans spining mobo light on. Power going through the mobo, but the cpu not responding.
